About us

In 1924, Sam Cowan founded Majestic Neckwear in Montréal, Canada. His journey began in 1901, when, at thirteen years old, he arrived in Canada alone from Romania — a country ravaged by famine and depression. He started as a peddler with a handcart, selling scarves and mufflers. Demand soon called for a horse and buggy, then a menswear store in Saskatoon, and eventually a manufacturing business making men's ties and scarves in Montréal. At 36, Sam laid the foundation for what would become a four-generation family business.

In the 1950s, Majestic's sleepwear heritage began. It was considered very chic for a man to wear a white terry robe at the start and end of his day, and Majestic supplied Canada's finest department stores from its Canadian facility. The company continued to expand under the leadership of Sam's son-in-law, Andre, and his wife, Esther.

In the late 1980s, the third generation joined the business. Sam Landsman, Esther and Andre's son, oversaw the design and construction of a new 150,000 square-foot facility. In 2012, Majestic moved into a custom-built, LEED-certified headquarters — an environmentally conscious home for a company with century-old roots.

Sam also introduced Majestic to the U.S. market in the early 1990s. The response was overwhelming. Today, Majestic counts Nordstrom, Dillard's, Bloomingdale's, Saks Fifth Avenue, and hundreds of fine menswear retailers among its partners — along with luxury hotels and spas around the world.

Now, a fourth generation has joined the family business. Alex Landsman continues the legacy his great-grandfather started over a century ago — proving that while the way we do business has changed, our founding ideals have not: quality products, quality service, and the honesty and integrity that built this company from a handcart on the streets of Canada.
